This document is aimed at Local Education Authorities, schools, and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. The guidance is designed to help teachers and others, working alongside mental health professionals, to promote the mental health of pupils and to intervene effectively with those children experiencing problems.

The guidance looks at the nature of mental health in children and examines some of the causes of mental health problems. In particular, it looks at the mental risks and resilience of young people.

There are also sections covering mental health within a school environment, and the academic and educational advantages of ensuring that pupils are in good mental health.
